Four Undercard Fighters to Watch in March

By Jeff Carroll

March 13 — Estrada v Gonzalez 2 Card

Austin “Ammo” Williams will now be facing Denis Douglin, after Aaron Coley dropped out. Douglin is a huge step up in competition for the rising prospect, whose defense has looked questionable at times. Douglin has faced Jermell Charlo, George Groves, David Benavidez and Anthony Dirrell in losses, and brings a wealth of experience that will be sure to test Williams.

Saturday March 20 — Okolie v Glowacki Card

Ramla Ali makes her second professional appearance on this card, and although her opponent has not been named yet, she has quite the story. She is from Mogadishu, Somalia, and at 31 her professional career is getting a late start, but as an amateur she won the 2015 Novice national championships in England, the 2016 England Boxing Elite National Championships, and the 2016 Great British Championships. She is also an activist and a model, appearing on the front cover of British Vogue, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Guardian Observer, Wonderland, ELLE, The Square Mile, The Week, Swiss Style and Puss Puss Magazine and been photographed for publications Time Magazine, Spanish Vogue, Sunday Times Style, Twin, Gentlewoman & Conde Nast . In 2019 Pantene announced Ramla as its newest ambassador and face of their haircare brand.

Saturday March 20 — Ortiz Jr v Hooker Card

Arslanbek Makhmudov is the one to watch on this card. The towering heavyweight prospect is 11–0 with 11KOs. Although he also does not have an opponent yet, he will be worth a watch. Just under six foot six, Makhmudov throws thunderous punches. If he can polish his game a little, he should be a powerful threat at heavyweight.

March 27 — Povetkin v Whyte 2 Card

Fabio Wardley, 26, is taking on Eric Molina, 38. Molina is 2–3 in last 5 and and Wardley is on a 9 fight KO streak. A good test for Wardley, and could evolve into a slugfest. If Wardley is to do anything at heavyweight, Molina shouldn’t challenge him too heavily, but watch for Wardley to make an impression and try to get the KO. Also on the card, the ever entertaining Ted Cheeseman, famous for his face first defense, and the debut of Ricky Hatton’s son, Campbell Hatton.
